"The view from the top of business. Presented by Evan Davis, The Bottom Line cuts through confusion, statistics and spin to present a clearer view of the business world, through discussion with people running leading and emerging companies. The programme is broadcast first on BBC Radio 4 and later on BBC World Service Radio, BBC World News TV and BBC News Channel TV.

Evan Davis and his executive panel discuss different types of employment contracts and how far should employers go in checking on their employees' behaviour?

Joining Evan in the studio are Eric Born, Swiss CEO of logistics and transport company, Wincanton, Nick Buckles, CEO of security giant G4S and Jason Iftakhar, co-founder of Salford based company, Swifty Scooters."

Producer: Ben Carter
Editor: Stephen Chilcott.

My Bottom Line

"Jason Iftakhar is co-founder of Salford based company Swifty Scooters.

He says it is a great time for young graduates and designers to start a business, as it is now cheaper than it has ever been, with lots of cheap tools at hand to help manage a start-up.

Entrepreneurs do not need lots of finance either, says Jason - just a good idea for a product and an idea of who the customer is. Testing the market is easy, and social media offers cheap, innovative ways to advertise a product."

"The SwiftyONE scooter is engineered as elegantly as it rides. Its British steel frame is not only absorbent, but also folds down to a size of a collapsible bike. And importantly, the SwiftyONE is man size. As of now riders can also customise their models colours online. This season; we say the brighter the better"

"Scooters have a bit of a bad reputation as a must-have hipster accessory (think Nathan Barley) but I have to admit that the new SwiftyONE Chrome from Jason and Camilla Iftakhar might break the mould. Firstly it’s beautifully designed and made – sleek and stylish. Secondly, it’s robust enough to make you feel like you are actually using something built for adults (rather than ironically using a child’s toy) and yet it only weighs 7.5kg."

"We're sure flying down Livingetc's corridors on an adult sized folding scooter breaches many health and safety codes, but it was all in the name of research. We conclude - Swifty Scooter is designed and made in the UK, and is light, quick and easy to fold. So will it change commuting forever? It's certainly a lot of fun, and good for the rear (we're told). We want this limited-edition Conran blue version. £650 (conranshop.co.uk)"

Super Scooter: Swifty One

"Finally, a scooter for grown-ups. Swifty One is the adult equivalent of the kickmobiles that kids use to take control of every footpath. It's a decent size and comes with 16in pneumatic wheels, allowing your dignity to glide with you - well almost. The frame is shock absorbent and foldable, while the whole thing weighs a light 7.8kg."

Swifty One scooter

"When traffic is glacial, trains overloaded and excersice time at a premium, kick scooters are an appealing alternative for city commuters. But a grown man riding hunched over on a kids toy? That's just embarrassing.

Fortunately, Manchester base designer Jason Iftakhar has come up with a more credible proposition. Handmade to order, his Swifty One scooter is engineered as elegantly as it rides. Its British-steel frame is not only shock absorbent, but folds down to the size of a collapsible bike. And, importantly, the Swifty One is man-size. "There are brands who do big scooters for skiers in Scandanavia to train during the summer, but those don't collapse," says Iftakhar.

Having just launched at a pop-up shop in east London, Swifty One scooters are winding their way through traffic in the capital and other cities from Paris to New York. As of now, risers can also customise their model's colours online. This season: we say the brighter the better."

''A businessman who has developed a folding scooter for commuters has got his venture off to a flying start after securing hundreds of orders from overseas.

Design consultant Jason Iftakhar's Swifty Scooters has attracted interest from around the globe only eight weeks after he launched the produce at a trade show.

The scooters are being manufactured in Greater Manchester. The parts are made by Oldham-based precision engineer and aluminium fabricator Metool, and the scooters hand-assembled in Salford at Swifty's premises.

Swifty's biggest coup so far has been from a supplier in Singapore, who signed up for 200, and it has won orders from customers in Sydney, Toronto, Tokyo, Paris, New York and Holland.''

"In my mind I am four again – if only for a moment. In the excitement of whizzing down the quiet mews near Sloane Square, I can almost imagine I’m wearing gingham plimsolls and ribbons in my hair! No I haven’t borrowed the mini-scooter of a niece or nephew, but am entrusted as the first journalist to test ride the Swifty scooter – albeit under the watchful eye of its designer,  Jason Iftakhar.  Oh the pressure, like driving a Ferrari under the gaze of Enzo himself!"
